Breathe Life Into Your Writing Dream. Because If You Don't, Who Will?
Art For Art's Sake: Part 19
Do you remember the day you first dreamt of becoming a writer?
Do you remember the feelings, sensations and emotions that surged through you when you imagined your life as a published author? The books you'd write. The hearts you'd touch. The minds you'd brighten. The life you'd live.
Do you remember that?
What happened after that?
Did life come in between? Did other people and situations take up the majority of your time? Did society's manual on Living direct your life away from your dream? Did you try your hand at writing that novel only to be heartbroken and angry by the shitty first draft?
What did you do then?
Did you give up on your dream to become a published author and return to the "safe," prescribed way of living? Or did you keep the flame of your dream burning?
Let me be clear and insistent about one fact.
If you have the dream of becoming a writer, it means that you are already one. That means you have what it takes to achieve this dream, and you will achieve it. There is no denying this fact.
So never for a moment, in the face of failure, distractions, obstacles and setbacks, think, "Ah! Maybe I am not meant to be a writer."
Don't be the person to not believe in yourself. Keep that job for others.
Instead, breathe life into your dream as a published and successful author.
If this is a dream you genuinely want to achieve from the deepest place in your heart, then set an intention to keep this dream alive in you. Because if you don't, who will?
Write a page or two whenever you can. If not that, then write a sentence or two. If not that, then imagine the lives the characters are living. If not that, then learn about one of the many aspects of the art of Writing and the craft of being an author. If not even that, then spend a few minutes before sleep imagining and feeling your life as a published and successful author.
Do whatever it takes to keep the flame of your writing dream burning. And when the time is right, ripe and aligned, things will work out for you. It always does.
"If you can't fly then run, if you can't run then walk, if you can't walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward."
- Martin Luther King Jr.
