What Does It Mean To Be A Social Writer?
The Soul vs Social Writer Series - Part 4
Now that we know who a Soul Writer is, why you should be one and how to know you are a Soul Writer, become one and stay one for life, it's time to see the other side of the coin - Social Writer.
Who is a Social Writer?
In the infancy of my writing career, I realised that writing my novels would be of no (tangible) use if I didn't have an audience to share it with. It took me years to accept that I can't just publish my books and hope for the best. I need to give my books the best chance to reach their readers.
Which is why I started writing online. I didn't realise then that by writing and publishing my work online, I was tapping into the Social Writer in me.
The main goal of a Social Writer is to make an impact. You want to help people see a deeper and different way of living their life.
Which is why a Social Writer writes for others.
Chances are you have spent considerable time learning some aspects of human life and function and want to impart your knowledge or expertise to others. This is why becoming a writer comes to a Social Writer later in life as a second career.
Because you have years of experience and expertise, you can organise and articulate your thoughts comfortably.
Alongside the audience, a Social Writer keeps an eye on the market. What the readers are resonating with, how they are reacting to your work, where the world is heading when it comes to their particular industry - a Social Writer keeps a check on these.
Building an audience is critical to a Social Writer. It simply means that we want to help others, lead them, and create an influence in the hopes of gathering a group of people who would be interested in our words and are willing to pay for it. And because of this, you're great at using social media.
But be careful! With the fickleness of social media, you can go several wrong ways -
First, you overdo it and bombard your audience with your content on every social media platform. This can lead to information overload for your readers.
Second, you get so busy keeping up with the algorithm that you forget that readers are not machines and need time to digest and use your information.
Third, you become too social and share aspects of your life and career that do more harm than good for the audience.
Fourth, you hop on the new marketing trick hoping to bring in new readers. But you forget that other writers are doing the same, therefore irritating the audience.
Why Should You Be A Social Writer?
You can't be a writer if you don't have readers.
Readers keep the writer writing. They help the writer sustain a lifelong writing career.
Yes, a writer could write for themselves and their own fun. But if you want the word "Writer" to be your professional tag, you need to share your words with an audience.
