Send Out A Daily Dispatch Of Your Work
My Key Takeaway From Austin Kleon's Show Your Work
Initially, I thought as an old-fashioned writer.
I'll take the whole year writing my book, and I'll get it published.
People will read my book and go crazy.
What's funny is that this didn't even work in the old days. Artists had to always bust their bums to have their work in front of others.
For people to go crazy about your work, they need to know you and your work exist. And the best way to do that is to show up in front of people daily.
With the internet, this has become easier.
For the past ten months, I have been writing online, and I can say from experience that sending out a daily dispatch does work in your favour.
It has helped me in the following ways:
I have built a writing habit.
I grew to trust myself as a writer.
The feedback I receive is helping me improve my craft.
Almost 1000 people know me, and my writing exists.
I now realise that my fears of not being good enough were based on imaginary foundations. We don't always know what's good and what sucks. But we can only hope to become good if we show up daily.
Forget about decades, forget about years, and forget about months. Focus on the days.
