This happened back in September.
I was excited that I was doing zoomies like a super-charged puppy (in my head, of course) because I was back at the cinemas after more than a year and a half.
I was there to watch Marvel's Shang-Chi. And I was so pumped that I took photographs and videos, for memory's sake.
Later, when I was sitting at the mall's food court, I put those pictures together and made a reel. I didn't think much about it and shared my happy moment on Instagram with whoever wanted to see it.
A couple of hours later, I see I have a notification. I go on to check it, and it's a comment that said, "Nobody cares."
What I did next surprised me.
I thought to myself, "Ok, cool."
Woah!
Where did that come from?
"Ok, cool?"
Did I just think that, instead of falling into the pit of self-loathing?
Was I just fine with some random stranger saying something negative to me and moving on with my life?
Who is this Rubina? Why didn't this variant of hers come into my life before?
The more I thought about it, the more I realised I was absolutely fine with that comment.
Do you know why?
Because it didn't concern me. It wasn't about me, nor was it an opinion that mattered to me.
I genuinely didn't care if nobody cared; I had a good time. Because they don't need to.
I knew I had a good time. Heck, I found myself a new celebrity crush as well. (Sorry Simu, it's not you but your father, Tony.)
I had fun, and that's all that matters.
I shared it online because I wanted to share some of my joy.
People are free to join my party, and they are free to leave my party. As long as they are not blocking the door, I am cool.
If you think about it, you don't need everyone to care about you.
You need a handful of people who know you and love you, and therefore, care about you.
There will be cases where it's just you who's caring about you and your joy, and that's fine too. As long as you have your heart in whatever you say, do, and believe, it doesn't matter what others think.
Since nobody cares, it sets you free to do whatever you'd love to love.
So go, and love your passions, hobbies, likes, quirks with all the love you have inside of you and share that vibe with others.
I know we all could always do more with some of that positive energy.
