FAQs About Me

Who are you?

Hi! I am Rubina. Nice to meet you!☺️

No, who are you deep down?

I am an introverted soul trapped in a human body, living in an extroverted world.

What do you do?

I write.😁

No, seriously, what do you actually do?

I… write.😐

Ok, so you make a living by writing?

Not yet, but I will. ONE DAY!🙌

What do you write about?

In non-fiction, I write essays about lessons I learnt from life, books I loved, movies I adored, and things I understand about what it means to be a human and creative person/writer.

In fiction, I write short stories of mystery, suspense, thriller genres. And, in the future, I’ll be writing novels. I hope you like them!

How did you become a writer?

Before I answer that, you should first ask me how I became a reader.

Ok, how did you become a reader?

My love for books began in August 2007 when my mother introduced me to Queen of Crime, Agatha Christie.

It took me six months to complete the 363-page book called The Adventure of the Christmas Pudding. Yes, 6 months! I was a very slow and uninterested reader then.

After finishing that book, I was a completely new person. I became a reader!📚

Hmm, and how did you become a writer?

One Sunday in the summer of 2014, I finished Curtain by Agatha Christie and was lying in bed.

You know the feeling where you are staring at something, but you’re not actually looking at it? — you are simply lost somewhere else. That was me at that moment, staring at the ceiling fan and wondering what a fantastic storyteller Agatha Christie is. I was asking myself how Agatha Christie pulled this book off.

As I was doing that, a voice in my head said — “Wouldn’t it be amazing if I could make others feel the same way Agatha made me feel through her stories?”

That was my light bulb moment! It was at this moment I knew I wanted to become a writer!✍️

Interesting… So what’s your favourite book?

One book? My friend! That is a deadly question to ask a bookworm. We are always walking around with a list. Here you go -

  • Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie

  • And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie

  • Kane and Abel by Jeffrey Archer

  • Behind Her Eyes by Jack Jordan

  • Midday by David B Lyons

  • Afterlife by Marcus Sakey

  • A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles

  • The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck by Mark Manson

  • The Art and Business of Online Writing by Nicolas Cole

and the list goes on… You might want to check out my Ultimate Favourite list on my Goodreads.

And how many books do you own?

I don’t have a definite number for you, but I know it’s over 350.

And how many of them are unread?

*nervous sweating*

Next question, please.😬

What other interests do you have?

  • I love coffee!

  • I love making friends and chatting.

  • Thanks to The Mummy, Stargate SG1, Agatha Christie’s Death on the Nile, I love Egyptian history.

  • I love movies — I am a Marvel fan, and I de-stress myself to Agatha All Along.

  • Talking of movies, I have too many celebrity crushes to keep track of.

What’s your favourite movie/tv show?

Again, that’ll be a long list, and it keeps changing. Here’s how it stands right now -

  • The Tourist, starring Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp

  • Murder on the Orient Express, starring Kenneth Branagh

  • The Usual Suspects, starring Kevin Spacey, Gabriel Byrne

  • The Godfather, starring Marlon Brando, Al Pacino

  • John Wick, starring Keanu Reeves

  • The Matrix, starring Keanu Reeves

  • Iron Man, starring Robert Downey Jr.

  • The Avengers, starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans

  • Stargate SG1, starring Richard Dean Anderson, Michael Shanks, Amanda Tapping, Christopher Judge

  • Loki, starring Tom Hiddleston

  • The Empire, starring Kunal Kapoor, Dino Morea

  • Brooklyn Nine Nine, starring Andy Samberg

  • Friends, (do I seriously need to mention the cast of Friends?)

What are your dreams/goals in life?

  • Becoming a published author

  • Getting a golden retriever

  • Owning a cafe

  • Being a part of the International Agatha Christie Festival

  • Visiting the Pyramids of Giza

What will you name your dog?

I’ll name him Dadu, after my grandfather.

What do you do for fun?

  • I read.

  • I go out with friends to chat over a cup of coffee.

  • I go to the movies.

  • I sometimes play badminton.

  • I sometimes draw fashion illustrations.

  • I plan gifts for my friends.

  • I bake!

What are five random facts about you?

  • I am a classic Capricorn — the more you spend time with me, the more real-me will you meet.

  • After graduation, I took a gap year to find out what I needed to do to become a writer. I am so glad I took that step!

  • I judge a cafe based on the cappuccino they make. If the barista can’t make this basic coffee, I am not going back there.

  • I was hit by depression in the second year of college. The worst time of my life! But, thank God, I made out safely.

  • My favourite flower is Tuberose.
