Who are you?
Hi! I am Rubina. Nice to meet you!
No, who are you deep down?
I am an introverted soul trapped in a human body, living in an extroverted world.
What do you do?
I write.
No, seriously, what do you actually do?
I... write.
Ok, so you make a living by writing?
I do! My book, Soul Writer vs. Social Writer, is out now!
What do you write about?
I write essays about what it means to live a creative life as a writer and human. And I write novels and short stories, usually centred around mystery and suspense.
How did you become a writer?
Before I answer that, you should first ask me how I became a reader.
Ok, how did you become a reader?
My love for books began in August 2007 when my mother introduced me to the Queen of Crime, Agatha Christie. It took me six months to complete the 363-page book called The Adventure of the Christmas Pudding. Yes, six months! I was a very slow and uninterested reader then. After finishing that book, I was a completely new person. I became a reader!
Hmm, and how did you become a writer?
One Sunday in the summer of 2014, I finished Curtain by Agatha Christie and was lying in bed. You know the feeling where you are staring at something, but you're not actually looking at it? - you are simply lost somewhere else. That was me at that moment, staring at the ceiling fan and wondering what a fantastic storyteller Agatha Christie was. I was asking myself how Agatha Christie pulled this book off. As I was doing that, a voice in my head said - "Wouldn't it be amazing if I could make others feel the same way Agatha made me feel through her stories?" That was my light bulb moment! It was at this moment I knew I wanted to become a writer.
Interesting... So what's your favourite book?
One book? My friend! That is a deadly question to ask a bookworm. We are always walking around with a list. Here you go -

And the list goes on...
And how many books do you own?
I have yet to figure out a definite number for you, but I know it's over 500.
And how many of them still need to be read?
*nervous sweating*
Next question, please.
What other interests do you have?

Thanks to The Mummy, Stargate SG1, and Agatha Christie's Death on the Nile, I love Egyptian history.

What are five random facts about you?
I am a classic Capricorn - the more you spend time with me, the more authentic me you will meet.
After graduation, I took a gap year to find out what I needed to do to become a writer. I am so glad I took that step!
I judge a cafe based on the cappuccino they make. If the barista can't make this basic coffee, I am not going back there.
I was hit by depression in the second year of college. The worst time of my life! But, thank God, I made out safely.
My favourite flower is Tuberose.
Ok... And why do you share your essays online?
My goal with my newsletter (Rubina's Bojra), my books (Soul Writer vs. Social Writer), and my podcast (Becoming A Writer) is to let my fellow writers know that they can write and have a fun time doing it. I want to help other lost, confused, frustrated writers connect with their writer soul and enjoy every writing session.
