Did You Forget To Thank The Most Indispensable Person In Your Life?
Chances Are, You Did.
As one would often do after a day spent working, I found myself scrolling through YouTube. What YouTube recommended to me was motivational quotes and thoughts. I didn't mind them, so I kept watching and kept scrolling to the next one.
What dropped next on my radar was Snoop Dogg's Hollywood Walk of Fame speech. It was the end of the speech that caught my attention. Here's a snippet of it -
"I want to thank me for believing in me, I want to thank me for doing all this hard work. I wanna thank me for having no days off. I wanna thank me for never quitting. I wanna thank me for always being a giver and trying to give more than I receive. I wanna thank me for trying to do more right than wrong. I wanna thank me for being me at all times, Snoop Dogg you a bad motherf**ker."
That made me stop scrolling, sit back, and think.
When was the last time I thanked myself? When was the last time I appreciated the effort I was putting in - in all aspects of my life? When was the last time I cheered for myself when I got up after falling down? When was the last time I patted myself for sticking to who I am, no matter how much the world tried to sway me in a different direction? When did I last congratulate myself for making it through our darkest times? When was the last time I acknowledged I was scared, yet I cheered myself as I took the leap?
Yes, other people, places, situations, and things have helped us achieve something. But we tend to forget that it is US who is doing the work. We are the one person we get to live with our whole lives. Do all the things we want to do. Be all the things we want to be. Strive for the things we want to strive for. And yet, many a time, we forget to thank ourselves for being our most faithful and indispensable companion.
Moral of the story - Be your own cheerleader, and don't forget to thank yourself.
