Day 9: The Top Takeaway I Got From Mark Manson’s The Subtle Art Of Not Giving A F*ck
Follow along my Ship 30 for 30 journey as I learn what it means to be a writer in this digital age.
After graduation, many of my classmates went the usual way of securing themselves a job. I went on the road less travelled to figure out how to become a crime fiction novelist.
It’s been six years since I took that decision.
While my friends had high-paying, secure jobs, most aren’t happy where they are. Some don’t even realise that they are emotionally miserable.
I, on the other hand, am the happiest I have ever been. Each year, I am becoming more confident in myself and my work.
This reminds me of the lesson I learnt from Mark Manson’s The Subtle Art Of Not Giving A F*ck:
What pain do you want in your life? What are you willing to struggle for?
This question hit me like Jerry hits Tom in the face with the frying pan.
Everyone struggles with their work life. My friends are struggling in their work life. I, too, have my own share of work struggles.
My friends didn’t give themselves a moment to think before jumping into society’s job hamster wheel. They are burning out their souls.
I chose what I wanted to struggle for. I know what I have signed up for and am willing to fight for it. And my soul has never shined so bright.
