Day 23: I Plan My Month’s Writing Content In A Day. Here’s A Step-By-Step To How I Do It (And How You Can Too)
Follow along my Ship 30 for 30 journey as I learn what it means to be a writer in this digital age.
List Out Potential Topics
Pick 3-5 topics (and no more) of your interest.
These should be topics you’re either interested in writing about or are learning about and can share your experience.
For me, it is
Life Lessons
Writing/Creative Life
Books/Reading
Assign Specific Days To Each Topic
Doing this makes it easier to know when you are writing about which topic.
Therefore removing any decision fatigue, you faced earlier.
For me, it is
Monday - Life Lessons
Wednesday - Writing/Creative Life
Friday - Books/Reading
(Note- I also had Movies/TV and Short Stories in this list. They occupied Tuesday and Thursday.)
Brain Dump 4 Ideas For Each Topic
Looking at the month and thinking about writing 12 essays would overwhelm me. So instead, I think about the month in terms of topics.
When I do that, I immediately relax because I see I only need 4 ideas for each topic. This explanation keeps my brain at ease.
You don’t need to know what exactly you’re going to write in each of those ideas. Just note down what is intriguing you at the moment in each topic.
Organise Those Ideas Into Your Calendar
Now that you have 4 ideas for each topic, you should end up with 12 ideas for the whole month.
The next step is to place each idea in your calendar under the designated day of its topic.
Pick The First, Write It, Post It, Move On To The Next
That’s it! You have your list of ideas ready. Now it’s time to get your hands dirty.
