Day 21: This Beast Of A Philosophy Book Took Me 412 Days To Read! (And 4 Lessons I Learned From It)
Follow along my Ship 30 for 30 journey as I learn what it means to be a writer in this digital age.
I never understood the fuss about reading Philosophy.
The books of this genre are not books but tomes - big, heavy, and dull books with small fonts and no white space.
God alone knows what attracted me to The Laws Of Human Nature by Robert Greene.
But I am thankful that I found this beast at the right time in my life.
Here are four lessons this book taught me:
Made Me Humble
It made me kind and considerate with not only others but also myself. My levels of being judgmental, being irritated by every second nuisance, and always overthinking went way down.
Now I think before I react. I have also turned into a silent observer of people and life.
Thanks to this book, I now understand what we humans really are.
Detaching Myself
I have now turned into the most chill person. I don't take anything personally.
Even when it comes to my emotions, I ask myself why I feel that way. I try to find the root cause and work from there.
This is making me understand myself better.
Understanding People
Now I don't take people at face value. Because, thanks to The Laws Of Human Nature, I know there's something deep down that's triggering the behaviour.
Now I understand why I behave a certain way, why they react that way and why I don't like certain people and things.
Childhood Plays A Major Role
Your childhood, parents, society, thoughts, beliefs, and the experience your parents grew up with play a critical role in shaping your personality.
And the irony is that you don't get to choose it.
But that doesn't mean you can't work on it.
