Day 20: The One Critical Lesson I Learned From Writing Online For A Year (And What Makes Me Hopeful For My Writing Future.)
Follow along my Ship 30 for 30 journey as I learn what it means to be a writer in this digital age.
On August 1st, 2021, I took the leap of faith and started writing and publishing my essays online.
I didn’t know where this journey would take me, but I knew it was high time I gave myself and my writing a fair chance.
As of today, September 1st, 2022, I have crossed 1200 followers and 55 email subscribers collectively on my Medium and Substack pages.
These are the best results I have gotten in a long time, and I am grateful for each of my supporters.
Of the many lessons I learned this past year, there’s one that stands out with pride and humility. It is the fact that…
I am a writer.
Up until August 2021, I was dreaming about being a writer.
My belief that I am not good enough yet to have readers read my work held me back. I believed that I had to be seen as a bright and confident writer before I could share my words. Only then could I write and have the audacity to call myself a writer.
But that wasn’t the case.
What I learned was I am a writer because I write. I am a writer when I write. I am not a writer when I have a finished essay or book. I am a writer when I continuously engage in various aspects of writing.
I became a writer when I stopped dreaming about being one and started acting like one.
