Day 13: The Most Difficult Choice I’ve Ever Had To Make In Life Took Me Down Such A Beautiful Road
Follow along my Ship 30 for 30 journey as I learn what it means to be a writer in this digital age.
“Why don’t you take a gap year for your writing?” my mother said on the phone.
That stopped my anxious pacing.
“Come home, and we’ll think about it,” my mother continued.
What surprised me on this particular March 2016 morning was my mother suggested gap year. Shouldn’t it have been the other way around? I thought.
My plan, up until then, was to pursue MA while I figured out how I could become a novelist. But that went out the window when my professor told me there might not be a MA course in the following year because of a lack of faculty.
My mother came to my recuse with the idea of a gap year dedicated to writing.
On my drive back home, the more I thought about the gap year, the more it seemed possible. By the time I reached home, everyone, including me, knew I was taking a gap year.
It was a difficult choice because I was going on a different path I had never seen anyone near me take. Most usually follow the society-prescribed path. So going in the opposite direction seemed scary.
But I am glad I took this step. I have had the most eye-opening years since then. Not only I learnt who I am as a writer, but I also got the time to unearth who I am.
This path wasn’t easy, but it was so worth it!
