Day 12: The Best Way To Become A Lifelong Reader And Enjoy The Best Hobby There Is
Follow along my Ship 30 for 30 journey as I learn what it means to be a writer in this digital age.
It was in August 2007 when I found myself at a bookstore staring up at shelves full of books.
That day, I didn't know I was about to embark on a life-changing journey which would turn me into a lifelong reader.
Now, 15 years later, I have a corner of my room which is my library.
I have read books of different varieties. Crime Fiction, Thrillers, Mysteries, Historical Fiction, and Science Fiction constitute the fiction section. Then I also have Self-Help, Personal Development, books on Writing, Mental Health, Productivity, Spirituality and Philosophy.
So it's safe to say I know a thing or two about being a lifelong reader.
If you want to become a lifelong reader and enjoy every moment of it, keep these 3 points in mind:
Firstly, let your curiosity choose books for you.
Choose books that pull you in, speak to you, or make you interested. Let your curiosity lead the way, and you'll never find a boring book.
Secondly, don't rush the reading process.
You don't need to finish a book in a week or 52 in a year, or 100 in a year.
Take as long as you need to read the book. Each book you read will demand a different time commitment from you.
Thirdly, don't let ANYONE influence your Reading.
Don't read books everyone is saying you should.
Be open to recommendations but tune in with your curiosity before you buy and read any book.
If you keep these 3 points in your mind, you'll earn a hobby that will keep you happy for life.
