Hi!
My name is Thor.
No, I am not the God of Thunder. But I am the God of Treats and Naps.
I am a six-year-old Golden Retriever, and I live with my parents, Jason and Lidia.
It's Christmas!
We get very excited about Christmas. Food, friends and gifts are all that we think about throughout the holiday season.
I can smell the choco-chips. Lidia is baking cookies in the kitchen. And Jason went out quite early in the morning. Isn't today a holiday? Why did he go out then? I hope he brings me a puppuccino.
Lidia spent the whole of yesterday morning gift wrapping the gifts. She doesn't know, but I noticed the tennis balls. I can't wait to play with them!
This year Christmas might be quieter than usual.
We won't be going to anyone's house, nor is anyone visiting us. Jason told me that something in the air is making people sick. And if we meet too many people, we might get it too. We'll just drop off the gifts. This ill air is the same reason why Jason and Lidia don't go to work anymore.
I hope we dogs aren't affected by it.
Another reason for a quiet Christmas is a sad one.
Last month I lost my best friend, Rogers.
He was already here when I came in as a puppy. He was a sweet partner. Always tried to stop me from causing mischief.
He was funny too. One of his best jokes was that he is called a Labrador because he was born on the other side of the lab's door. That joke still makes me laugh.
I miss him.
I miss fighting over my hammer toy with him.
It's been lonely without him.
Oh! I hear something! Who is it?
Jason's back. He has got a small box with him. And I don't see any puppuccino. Well, it's okay. I'll get one when we go out.
I bark to let Lidia know Jason is here. She almost understands my barks. As she is coming out of the kitchen, Jason enters the house. He shows her the box. They both are smiley and happy. There must be something good in there. Jason turns to me.
"Here's your Christmas present, buddy."
Christmas present!? I thought it was the tennis balls.
What's in the box!? What's in the box!?
Show me!
I am too excited!
Jason places the box on the floor and opens the flaps for me. I peek in.
At first, I don't notice it. It's something small, furry and black. But then it moves. I see it has eyes. They're almost green.
It's a... it's a cat!
Lidia sits next to me.
"Thor, meet your new brother, Loki."
Loki!
My new brother!
He's so cute!
And so small!
I will love him to the moon and back.
And I will protect him like my own.
I just hope he's isn't too mischievous.
Dog God! I love Christmas mornings!
